Meet Cameron and read about his journey from teaching to data analyst

Having returned to England, after a brief, almost 10 year gap year abroad, I realised that I would need to retrain and find a new passion to pursue now that I was back.

Although I worked abroad as a teacher, I wanted to try something new, and I've always had a more tech/data focused mind, but since it had been so long since I dabbled in the area last, there was a lot of learning that needed doing.

I was advised to search for local bootcamps and apprenticeships to allow for this restart. Then after looking into a few, it was the Curious Academy that appealed to me the most. The mix of professional and personal care really made it stand out.

My goal by the end of the camp was to build a solid foundation of skills in data analytics, that could then be built upon after successful employment.

Every week, I very much looked forward to the 2 mornings spent at the Academy, and the extra SQL study clubs in the afternoons. Each lesson was a new adventure, and introduced new skills and abilities that were thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring. I learned to love the mysteries and narattives that simple data could conjure, and how to best present those findings. Diving into new data sets and deploying the learned skills with a wonderfully diverse, but close-knit group, really made the learning experience so much more fulfilling.

At the end of the course, I was given the opportunity to work with DVLA data and use it in any way I chose. I decided to build a simple dashboard designed to help prospective car dealership owners analyse the best brands and locations for their businesses. It was through this final project that I was lucky enough to secure an interview next door at Urban Science. And now, I am just coming up to my 1 year anniversary there. Without the foundation and skills that I built at my time in the Curious Academy, I know this never would have been possible.

I owe so much to my short but sweet time at the Curious Academy. They really are miracle workers there. And it is certainly true, the more you put in, the more you can get out of this course, as the learning environment really enables you to thrive.

There is so much care and thought put into the program, and the community it allows you to be a part of is such an amazing benefit. I couldn't recommend this course enough, they really helped me find my way again, and enabled a new passion for analytics. I wouls be more than happy to answer any questions about the academy and the course.

I'd like to end this with a sincere and heartfelt thanks to Matt, Louize and the whole team at the Curious Academy. You all make a real difference. Thank you
